ABOUT US

We are an independent film production house based out of Desert Island Studios in Portland, Oregon. In 2018, co-founders Joe Bowden and Ashley Mellinger turned a former vodka distillery into a film studio and started making movies that were funded, crewed, and created by and for their community.

Joe Bowden (Director / Cinematographer)

Joe has primarily focused on writing and directing absurd comedy, music videos, and other short narrative pieces. He's also produced commercials and cross-industry collaborations like XRAYTV. He was interviewed by Needle Drop Co. about what it takes to build a small creative community, which you can watch here. You can also follow him on social media.

Ashley Song (Actor / Producer)

Ashley was most recently interviewed by Oregon Arts Watch for her starring role in Antigone. She's produced many social justice and/or BIPOC-centered films such as Borrufa, Noelia, and This Vast and Mysterious Ocean. She was quoted in an article for The Ringer about the 2018 Pickathon Pumphouse and Edge live sessions tapings, which she field produced.
